Citizen, the artist who kicked off the MadTech adventure last year, returns to Kerri Chandler’s imprint with the sublime ‘So Submissive’, backed with remixes from Waze & Odyssey.
An enigmatic character who has so far let his music do most of the talking for him, Citizen has set his stall out firmly with releases for Love Fever, Five Easy Pieces and Templar Sound in the past two years. His music, house with a capital H, explores the genres branches but does so with an unerring respect for it’s classic tropes.
Pitched vocals, nagging keys and boulder-like 909 kicks form ‘So Submissive’, a part-melancholic part-eurphoric houser with anthemic qualities. It’s counterpart, ‘Stronger With You’, builds on the Garage leanings of ‘So Submissive’ and notches them up a gear into true, New Jersey beats/dub territory and the result is a serious throw down.
Waze & Odyssey, having delivered the last MadTech 12”, return to the label for the remix of ‘So Submissive’ and deliver a slow-burning but authoritative take with some cleverly handled drops to counterpoint the tight, drawn out groove.
The bastard son of SONA. If you don’t know her, educate yourself.
It was an era that FINLEY was brought up in and molded him into who he is today. “Tech-no” you say? “ Tech- yes” says FINLEY; inspired by marathon sets at the history filled SONA nightclub by artists such as Steve Bug, Tiga, Plastikman (Richie Hawtin), and Sven Vath to name a few. His inspirations led him to the decks in 1998 and over the next few years, he honed his skills while picking up residencies throughout New England underground parties, including the well-known SUNDAY NIGHT MASS in Burlington, VT. Then it was off to school to learn the precious art and science of audio engineering at Full Sail University, where his productions first saw the light of night. Now, with 15 years behind the decks and almost a decade producing, he is ready to come out in full force. His understanding and true love for the scene can be heard throughout his productions and dj sets. Sexy, deep, and melodic tunes, mixed with a bit of his techno and R&B roots, make for an incredible journey every time. He is a true NECK in every sense of the word. “Necktarded, Necktastic, Neckstacy” are just a few of the descriptions of the unique style that FINLEY has come to create over the years.
Juin Scoteau makes his debut to Warm Walls Records with the dark and moody “Under Under,” which brings haunting melodic elements to pulsing techno. The track is driven by a hollow percussive bassline that accompanies a flurry of extraterrestrial noises and chants. A big one for transitioning into the afterhours sound.
MKZ appears once again with his trademark bassline. Squelchy and futuristic, his signature sound is written all over this remix. Much like his remix of “It Was Imminent,” he brings new life to the soundscapes of “Under Under” as he reworks them into his own dance floor beast
